The critically endangered Chinese bahaba, nicknamed the 'Panda of the Sea,' has been confirmed present in Hong Kong's waters. Researchers used environmental DNA extracted from seawater to detect its genetic material. This fish had not been scientifically captured for over a decade. The study found traces of its DNA in western bays, showcasing advanced non-invasive methods for monitoring marine populations and aiding conservation efforts.
