Assam minister Biswajit Daimary's recent praise for the Ulfa organisation has ignited a political controversy. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma clarified that Daimary was referring to the pro-talks faction led by Anup Chetia, not the banned ULFA (Independent). Daimary had stated that Ulfa protected Assam for 50 years, crediting the Moran and Muttock communities. The Assam Pradesh Mahila Congress has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah seeking an explanation for the minister's remarks, questioning their consistency with national security policy.
