Former Deputy Tahsildar Gets 8 Years Rigorous Imprisonment For Bribery

A former deputy tahsildar of Kunnathur taluk, Babu, 63, has been sentenced to eight years of rigorous imprisonment and fined ₹1 lakh by the Kollam Vigilance Court. He was caught accepting a bribe in 2014 while attempting to release a seized laterite stone-cutting machine. The official had abused his position to demand bribes from a complainant for facilitating unauthorised quarrying and later for releasing the seized equipment.

कुन्नाथुर तालुक के पूर्व डिप्टी तहसीलदार बाबू, 63 साल, को कोल्लम विजिलेंस कोर्ट ने आठ साल की कठोर कैद और ₹1 लाख के जुर्माने की सज़ा सुनाई है। उन्हें 2014 में जब्त की गई लेटरराइट स्टोन-कटिंग मशीन को छोड़ने की कोशिश करते समय रिश्वत लेते हुए पकड़ा गया था। अधिकारी ने अनधिकृत खनन की सुविधा देने और बाद में जब्त किए गए उपकरण को छोड़ने के लिए शिकायतकर्ता से रिश्वत की मांग करने के लिए अपने पद का दुरुपयोग किया था।
