Farm Fires Drop 31% Across Six Northern States Ahead of Delhi Winter

Mint · environment

Farm fires, a major contributor to Delhi's air pollution, have decreased by 31.3% year-on-year across six northern Indian states between September 15 and October 27. Satellite data recorded 2,265 incidents compared to 3,300 last year, with Punjab reporting the highest number. While most states saw a decline, Madhya Pradesh recorded an increase. Authorities attribute the reduction to intensive monitoring, awareness campaigns, and potentially erratic rainfall patterns affecting harvesting schedules.
