Death Sutak Rules in Hinduism: What to Avoid During Mourning Period
TV9 Hindi · spirituality
In Hinduism, a mourning period known as 'Mrityu Sutak' or 'Mrit Sutak' is observed after a family member's death. This period typically lasts from 10 to 13 days, starting from the day of death, not cremation. During this time, religious activities like worship and chanting are prohibited, and auspicious ceremonies such as weddings are avoided. Family members also refrain from touching others, wearing new clothes, or cutting hair and beards. The mourning period concludes with purification rituals on the 13th day.
