Eighteen-year-old Parwati Topno, a player for the Indian junior women's hockey team, returned home to Kumhartoli village in Gumla to find her family's clay house damaged by recent heavy rains. One side of the house has collapsed, and the toilet is dilapidated, while the family relies on an irregular household water connection and a village hand pump. Parwati's father, a mason and sharecropper, has not benefited from any housing schemes.
