Higher Education Bill May Concentrate Powers: Panel

A parliamentary panel has raised concerns that the proposed Higher Education Bill could centralize excessive power within a single regulatory body. Introduced in the Lok Sabha last December, the Bill was subsequently sent to a joint committee for review. The committee's report suggests that this concentration of authority might undermine institutional autonomy and diverse perspectives in higher education governance across India.

संसदीय समिति ने चिंता जताई है कि प्रस्तावित उच्च शिक्षा विधेयक एक ही नियामक संस्था में अत्यधिक शक्ति केंद्रित कर सकता है। पिछले दिसंबर में लोकसभा में पेश किए गए इस विधेयक को समीक्षा के लिए संयुक्त समिति को भेजा गया था। समिति की रिपोर्ट में कहा गया है कि सत्ता का यह केंद्रीकरण भारत भर में उच्च शिक्षा के शासन में संस्थागत स्वायत्तता और विविध दृष्टिकोणों को कमजोर कर सकता है।
