Ukrainian Ex-Officer Faces Trial in Germany for Nord Stream Pipeline Sabotage

A former Ukrainian military officer, identified as Serhii K., is on trial in Germany accused of orchestrating the 2022 sabotage of the Nord Stream gas pipelines. The trial opened in Hamburg and is expected to continue until February. Prosecutors allege Serhii K. led a team of agents, including divers and an explosives expert, in the operation that ruptured three of the four pipelines. He was arrested in Italy in August 2025 and extradited to Germany. German prosecutors consider the attack on civilian infrastructure a war crime.
