Indian Rupee Rebounds Nearly 1% After RBI Curbs Speculative Trades
Economic Times Markets · stocks
The Indian rupee surged by nearly 1% on Monday, recovering approximately 100 paise to trade at 95.77 against the dollar. This rebound followed intervention by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to curb speculative currency trading and ease pressure on the local unit. The central bank introduced measures, including a separate window for oil companies' dollar demand, to support the rupee, which had depreciated significantly this year due to various economic factors. While these actions offer temporary relief, economists note they are tactical fixes rather than structural solutions.
