ITAT Rules on ₹1.56 Crore Ancestral Jewellery Seizure

ITAT in Kolkata has ruled in favour of an individual whose ancestral jewellery, valued at approximately ₹1.56 crore, was seized during an IT department search. The individual claimed the jewellery belonged to his deceased grandparents and father. The ITAT considered old valuation reports from 1997 and affidavits as crucial evidence of the jewellery's prior ownership. The tribunal decided against classifying the jewellery as undisclosed income, upholding the removal of the tax addition.

कोलकाता में ITAT ने एक ऐसे व्यक्ति के पक्ष में फैसला सुनाया है जिसके पैतृक गहनों, जिनका मूल्य लगभग ₹1.56 करोड़ था, को IT विभाग की तलाशी के दौरान जब्त कर लिया गया था। व्यक्ति ने दावा किया कि गहने उसके दिवंगत दादा-दादी और पिता के थे। ITAT ने गहनों के पिछले स्वामित्व के महत्वपूर्ण सबूत के तौर पर 1997 की पुरानी मूल्यांकन रिपोर्टों और हलफनामों पर विचार किया। ट्रिब्यूनल ने गहनों को अघोषित आय के रूप में वर्गीकृत नहीं करने का फैसला किया, जिससे कर वृद्धि को हटा दिया गया।
