New Zealand Defence Force chief Tony Davies resigned on Friday after admitting to an undisclosed inappropriate relationship during his time in unit command. Davies stated he was taking responsibility for past errors in judgment that were contrary to the Defence Force's values. Defence Minister Paul Goldsmith agreed that Davies' position was no longer tenable due to undisclosed integrity matters. Vice Chief of the Defence Force Mat Williams will serve as acting chief. Davies joined the military in 1984 and was appointed to the top post in 2024.
