EC's Re-enrolment Drive Excludes West Bengal Tribunal Cases

The Election Commission's special re-enrolment drive will not cover over 22 lakh voters in West Bengal whose cases are pending before appellate tribunals. This creates a potential disparity, as Form 6 applications are to be processed within months, while tribunal appeals could take years. An EC official stated that tribunal cases are already under adjudication, differentiating them from the Booth Level Officers' re-verification process. The Supreme Court had ordered the formation of these tribunals to handle disputed cases arising from the SIR process.
