A new study reveals that climate change amplified the damage caused by Cyclone Arnab, which struck eastern India on October 28, by 33%. This resulted in tens of millions of dollars in additional direct economic losses compared to a pre-industrial climate. The cyclone brought intense rain and peak winds up to 202 km/h, causing severe infrastructure damage. Researchers found climate change increased wind speed by approximately 5% and eyewall rainfall by 11% at landfall, with about 25% of the total economic damage directly attributed to global warming.
