Rajasthan Records Over 20% Rainfall Deficit, Worst in 16 Years

Business Standard · india

Rajasthan has experienced a rainfall deficit exceeding 20% this monsoon season, marking the most severe shortfall in 16 years. This has led to drought-like conditions across many regions, with Pali and Jaisalmer facing deficits of 58% and 54% respectively. The lack of rain has caused standing crops to wither, significantly impacting farmers and leading to reduced estimates for key Kharif crops. The state government has declared 80 tehsils across 14 districts as drought-affected, though concerns remain about unlisted areas facing similar distress.
