King Charles's Sandringham Estate Aids Turtle Dove Conservation Efforts
Times of India · environment
King Charles's Sandringham estate is actively participating in a conservation initiative to help restore the UK's declining turtle dove population. Estate wardens assisted in releasing 100 captive-bred birds in late spring and early summer 2024, with another 135 released in September 2024. The estate also provided financial support, donating £6,000 and supplying bird feed. This project aims to prevent the disappearance of one of Britain's fastest-declining bird species, which has seen a 98% population drop since 1994.
