Uttarakhand to Install First Early Warning System on Glacial Lake

Uttarakhand is installing its first early warning system on the Vasudhara glacial lake in Chamoli to mitigate damage from potential glacial lake outbursts. This initiative follows a flash flood disaster in Nepal and aims to strengthen monitoring and warning mechanisms in the state's high-altitude regions. Scientists from CBRI and Wadia Institute, along with SDRF, NDRF, and ITBP personnel, are part of the expedition. The Vasudhara lake's water spread area has increased fivefold since 1962, raising concerns about potential threats to downstream areas and infrastructure.

उत्तराखंड, चमोली में वसुंधरा ग्लेशियर झील पर अपना पहला अर्ली वार्निंग सिस्टम लगा रहा है ताकि ग्लेशियर झील फटने से होने वाले नुकसान को कम किया जा सके। यह कदम नेपाल में आई बाढ़ की आपदा के बाद उठाया गया है और इसका मकसद राज्य के ऊंचाई वाले इलाकों में निगरानी और चेतावनी तंत्र को मजबूत करना है। CBRI और Wadia Institute के वैज्ञानिक, SDRF, NDRF और ITBP के जवानों के साथ इस अभियान का हिस्सा हैं। वसुंधरा झील का जल फैलाव क्षेत्र 1962 से पांच गुना बढ़ गया है, जिससे नीचे के इलाकों और बुनियादी ढांचे के लिए संभावित खतरों की चिंता बढ़ गई है।
