BJD Opposes UPI Charges, Suggests Govt Funding

The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has strongly opposed the Centre's decision to impose a 0.4 per cent merchant discount rate (MDR) on UPI transactions exceeding Rs 2,000. Rajya Sabha MP Santrupt Misra stated that the government should fund the digital payment infrastructure, suggesting funds could come from the RBI's dividend or profits of banks involved with NPCI. He warned that the charge, effective October 15, could hurt merchants or be passed on.

बीजू जनता दल (BJD) ने केंद्र सरकार के 2,000 रुपये से अधिक के UPI लेनदेन पर 0.4% MDR लगाने के फैसले का कड़ा विरोध किया है। राज्यसभा सांसद संतरूप मिश्रा ने कहा कि सरकार को डिजिटल पेमेंट इंफ्रास्ट्रक्चर का खर्च उठाना चाहिए, यह पैसा RBI के डिविडेंड या NPCI से जुड़े बैंकों के मुनाफे से आ सकता है। उन्होंने चेतावनी दी कि 15 अक्टूबर से लागू होने वाला यह शुल्क व्यापारियों को नुकसान पहुंचा सकता है या वे इसे ग्राहकों पर डाल सकते हैं।
