Govt Forms Panel to Re-examine UGC's 2026 Equity Regulations After SC Stay

The Indian government has informed the Supreme Court that it is establishing a special committee to re-examine the UGC 2026 regulations aimed at promoting equity in higher education. The court had previously stayed these regulations in January, citing concerns that their provisions were vague and could be misused. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta assured the bench that the government is working to address student concerns and ensure no group feels excluded.

भारत सरकार ने सुप्रीम कोर्ट को बताया है कि वह उच्च शिक्षा में समानता को बढ़ावा देने के उद्देश्य से यूजीसी 2026 के नियमों की फिर से जांच के लिए एक विशेष समिति बना रही है। कोर्ट ने पहले जनवरी में इन नियमों पर रोक लगा दी थी, यह चिंता जताते हुए कि इसके प्रावधान अस्पष्ट थे और इनका दुरुपयोग किया जा सकता था। सॉलिसिटर जनरल तुषार मेहता ने बेंच को आश्वासन दिया कि सरकार छात्रों की चिंताओं को दूर करने और यह सुनिश्चित करने के लिए काम कर रही है कि कोई भी समूह बाहर महसूस न करे।
