The Delhi Police informed the Supreme Court that individuals detained on October 10 for protesting the Election Commission were provided with food, tea, and coffee, and were not held in jails. Instead, they were accommodated in police station offices and released within a few hours. The police stated these actions were necessary to avert a major public order situation and prevent harm to persons and property. They defended the detentions as proportionate measures taken under relevant sections of the Delhi Police Act and Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita.
