Sebi Eases KYC Norms For Overseas Investors, Allows Digital Onboarding
Business Standard · stocks
India's markets regulator, SEBI, has relaxed know-your-client requirements for overseas individual investors, enabling digital onboarding without physical presence in India. The revised rules, effective December 3, apply to non-resident Indians and foreign nationals from FATF-compliant jurisdictions. Custodian banks and brokers can now accept digital KYC information and rely on KYC done by other SEBI-registered intermediaries. Video-based verification is permitted where physical checks are not feasible, simplifying the process for eligible overseas clients.
