Tamil Nadu Power Generation Corporation Limited has appointed Ernst & Young as a consultant to assess equipment for the stalled Uppur thermal power plant. The move aims to suggest ways to utilize procured equipment, not to revive the multi-thousand-crore project. The plant, planned in 2010 with 1,600 MW capacity, stalled in 2021 due to land acquisition issues. Previous consultants had recommended developing the plant at Uppur, but the latest appointment suggests a shift in strategy. Officials stated the new consultant will determine the technical condition and reusability of unused equipment.
