The government has stated that E20 fuel adoption is evidence-based, with 23 crore vehicles currently in use. Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Suresh Gopi highlighted a phased and calibrated approach to increasing ethanol blending. The rate has risen from 1.53% in 2013-14 to a target of 20% by 2025-26.
