Supreme Court Questions Cap Limit On Essential Medicines
The Hindu · india
The Supreme Court has questioned the Centre's decision to cap trade margins only for cancer drugs, urging an extension to all essential medicines and medical products. The court expressed concern over mark-ups soaring up to 1,000% on certain medicines, calling it "broad daylight dacoity." While the Centre proposed a 30% cap for cancer drugs, the court suggested applying the 16% retailer margin prescribed under the DPCO, 2013, to other essential items. This intervention follows petitions seeking stricter price controls on disproportionate margins across the pharmaceutical supply chain.
