India's trade deficit with China has surpassed $100 billion in 2026, according to data from China's General Administration of Customs. Total bilateral trade increased by 25.4% to $144.45 billion between January and September, with India's imports rising 23.3% to $125.19 billion. Despite a 40.7% growth in Indian exports to $19.26 billion, the widening imbalance remains a significant concern for New Delhi. This issue was discussed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping, who agreed to address structural trade imbalances and market access concerns.
