Journalist Seeks Intervention in Supreme Court Case on Legislative Privilege vs Free Speech

Senior journalist Seema Chishti has applied to intervene in a Supreme Court case concerning legislative privilege and freedom of speech. The 2003 case involves The Hindu newspaper, which published an editorial critical of then Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa. The Assembly Speaker had passed a resolution accusing the newspaper of breaching privilege. The Supreme Court had previously stayed coercive action against the newspaper's editors.
