Supreme Court Orders Strict Action Against Unpaid Traffic Challans, Including Vehicle Impounding

Times of India · india

The Supreme Court has directed states and Union Territories to take stringent measures against vehicles with pending e-challans, emphasizing that simply issuing fines is insufficient. Authorities must now conduct random checks and impound vehicles with outstanding dues. Online services for vehicle registration, fitness certificates, and ownership transfers will be blocked until fines are cleared. Furthermore, no pollution under control certificates will be issued for vehicles with pending traffic fines. For repeat offenders, driving licence renewals may be stopped and existing licences suspended.
