Calcutta HC Sets Aside Order Protecting Congress Candidate

A division bench of the Calcutta high court has set aside a single bench's order that protected Congress candidate Milan Pradhan from arrest in a 2007 case. Pradhan, who is contesting the Nandigram by-election on October 6, had been granted protection by the single bench. The division bench expressed surprise at this protection. The court directed the state police not to take coercive steps against Pradhan in the specific case until October 12.

कोलकाता हाई कोर्ट की डिविजन बेंच ने कांग्रेस उम्मीदवार मिलन प्रधान को 2007 के एक मामले में गिरफ्तारी से मिली राहत को रद्द कर दिया है। प्रधान, जो 6 अक्टूबर को नंदीग्राम उपचुनाव लड़ रहे हैं, उन्हें सिंगल बेंच ने सुरक्षा दी थी। डिविजन बेंच ने इस पर हैरानी जताई। कोर्ट ने राज्य पुलिस को निर्देश दिया कि 12 अक्टूबर तक प्रधान के खिलाफ इस मामले में कोई सख्त कार्रवाई न की जाए।
