Heineken's Brick Bottle Concept Failed To Reach Market

Times of India · business

In 1963, Heineken produced 50,000 unique bottles designed to serve as both containers for beer and building bricks. The concept, conceived by Alfred Heineken after observing bottle waste and lack of building materials in Curacao, aimed to create a 'brick that holds beer'. A prototype glass house was constructed two years later, but technical and commercial challenges ultimately prevented the innovative bottle from reaching widespread market adoption. The design featured interlocking grooves to facilitate stacking with mortar.
