Kerala Consumer Commission Orders Rs 1.63 Lakh Payout For Defective Electric Scooter

A Kerala district consumer commission has ordered an electric scooter manufacturer to refund Rs 88,000 to a customer due to manufacturing defects, including poor battery performance and a faulty front wheel bearing. The commission also awarded Rs 50,000 in compensation and Rs 25,000 for litigation costs, totaling Rs 1.63 lakh. The customer had reported the scooter delivered only 40 km mileage, significantly less than the promised 85 km, and issues persisted even after battery replacements.

केरल के एक जिला कंज्यूमर कमीशन ने एक इलेक्ट्रिक स्कूटर बनाने वाली कंपनी को ग्राहक को 88,000 रुपये वापस करने का आदेश दिया है। ऐसा इसलिए क्योंकि स्कूटर में मैन्युफैक्चरिंग की खराबी थी, जैसे बैटरी का ठीक से काम न करना और अगले पहिये के बेयरिंग में दिक्कत। कमीशन ने 50,000 रुपये हर्जाने के तौर पर और 25,000 रुपये मुकदमेबाजी के खर्च के लिए भी दिए हैं। कुल मिलाकर यह रकम 1.63 लाख रुपये बनती है। ग्राहक ने बताया था कि स्कूटर की डिलीवरी के बाद वह सिर्फ 40 किमी ही चल पाया, जबकि कंपनी ने 85 किमी का वादा किया था। बैटरी बदलने के बाद भी दिक्कतें बनी रहीं।
