Grafted Tomato Pilot Project to Aid 100 Gumla Households Facing Wilt Disease
Times of India · top
A pilot project will introduce grafted tomato cultivation to 100 farming households in two villages in Gumla district's Ghaghra and Basia blocks. This initiative aims to combat recurring wilt disease, which has significantly impacted production and discouraged farming for years. Under an MoU between the district horticulture department and NGO Pradhan, farmers will cultivate grafted tomatoes on 0.3-acre plots and receive comprehensive training. The technique grafts high-yielding tomato varieties onto wilt-tolerant brinjal rootstocks, enhancing disease resistance while maintaining tomato characteristics.
