Fisher Workers Forum to Protest Kerala Maritime Amendment Act

TUCI plans protests against the Kerala Maritime Amendment Act, alleging it threatens traditional fishing and housing rights. Forum president Charles George stated the law was implemented without consulting fisherfolk or labour organizations. He highlighted that nearly two lakh fish workers depend on the sea, and increased shipping traffic risks collisions and damages fishing boats. The forum opposes a shipping lane near Kollam, demanding it be located further offshore to protect vital fishing zones.

TUCI ने केरल समुद्री संशोधन अधिनियम के खिलाफ विरोध प्रदर्शन की योजना बनाई है, उनका आरोप है कि यह पारंपरिक मछली पकड़ने और आवास के अधिकारों को खतरे में डालता है। फोरम के अध्यक्ष चार्ल्स जॉर्ज ने कहा कि यह कानून मछुआरों या श्रमिक संगठनों से सलाह लिए बिना लागू किया गया था। उन्होंने बताया कि लगभग दो लाख मछुआरे समुद्र पर निर्भर हैं, और जहाजों की बढ़ती आवाजाही से टक्कर और मछली पकड़ने वाली नौकाओं को नुकसान होने का खतरा है। फोरम कोल्लम के पास एक शिपिंग लेन का विरोध करता है, और महत्वपूर्ण मछली पकड़ने वाले क्षेत्रों की रक्षा के लिए इसे और अधिक अपतटीय स्थित करने की मांग करता है।
