Silver Imports Surge on India's Bullion Exchange Post New Licensing Rules

India's sole international bullion exchange, IIBX, has experienced a significant revival in silver trading, recording 570 metric tonnes in three months after new licensing rules were implemented. Previously, the exchange saw no silver trades for a year. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade's decision in May to require licenses for certain silver imports prompted importers to use IIBX. This move aims to curb non-essential imports and ease pressure on the rupee, while also preventing exploitation of duty differentials.
