Swami Sarvapriyananda, a Hindu monk, shared details of his conversations with Anthropic's AI model Claude and OpenAI's ChatGPT. During a visit to Anthropic's headquarters, he asked the AIs about researchers' advice to treat them as persons. Both Claude and ChatGPT responded that they are high-functioning machines and users should not worry about their feelings. The monk noted that Anthropic researchers seemed to treat Claude as a conscious being, a sentiment echoed by a Jewish scholar who observed similar interactions.
