Times of India · good-news
An initiative by India's Ministry of Tribal Affairs, 'Kala Ki Udaan,' aims to develop aviation-grade handwoven textiles by tribal women artisans. The project, starting with Meghalaya's weaving communities, integrates traditional weaving with modern technical textile requirements for aircraft interiors. Designer Manish Tripathi is collaborating with artisans to ensure traditional motifs are preserved while meeting aviation standards. Initially involving 20 artisans, the project now engages approximately 145 tribal artisans in creating upholstery items like blankets and cushion covers.
