The Supreme Court has taken a strict stance on children's online safety, expressing concern over minors using platforms like Facebook and Instagram. A bench led by CJI Suryakant highlighted that digital terms of service constitute a legal contract, which Indian law prohibits minors from signing. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta agreed, assuring the court that the government will enact stricter legal measures beyond mere guidelines under IT rules. This move aims to curb the arbitrary practices of tech companies and protect children from online grooming and data misuse.

सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने बच्चों की ऑनलाइन सुरक्षा को लेकर सख्त रुख अपनाया है, उन्होंने Facebook और Instagram जैसे प्लेटफॉर्म पर नाबालिगों के इस्तेमाल पर चिंता जताई है। CJI सूर्यकांत की अगुवाई वाली एक बेंच ने इस बात पर जोर दिया कि डिजिटल सेवा की शर्तें एक कानूनी अनुबंध होती हैं, जिस पर भारतीय कानून के तहत नाबालिगों के हस्ताक्षर करने पर रोक है। सॉलिसिटर जनरल तुषार मेहता ने भी इस बात से सहमति जताई और अदालत को आश्वासन दिया कि सरकार IT नियमों के तहत केवल दिशानिर्देशों से आगे बढ़कर सख्त कानूनी उपाय करेगी। इस कदम का मकसद टेक कंपनियों की मनमानी को रोकना और बच्चों को ऑनलाइन ग्रूमिंग और डेटा के दुरुपयोग से बचाना है।
