Eritrea has formally requested the United Nations to implement "deterrent measures" following what it describes as Ethiopia's "declaration of war" concerning the Tigray region. Addis Ababa previously accused Asmara of launching an "all-out invasion," claiming Eritrean troops advanced significantly into Ethiopian territory. Eritrea's Foreign Minister Osman Saleh stated these claims are an Ethiopian ploy to justify aggression and urged UN intervention under Chapter VII of the UN Charter. The situation escalates regional tensions, with both nations accusing each other of initiating conflict and backing opposing rebel factions.
