Iberian Lynx Population Surges From 62

Conservation efforts have dramatically boosted the Iberian lynx population, saving it from near extinction. In 2001, only 62 mature animals remained. Through reintroductions, captive breeding, habitat restoration, and protecting its main prey, the European rabbit, the species has recovered significantly. By 2022, the mature population reached 648, with the total estimated to exceed 2,000. This success has improved its IUCN Red List status, though full recovery is still pending.

इबेरियन लिंक्स की आबादी को बचाने के लिए संरक्षण के प्रयासों ने कमाल कर दिया है। 2001 में सिर्फ 62 लिंक्स बचे थे, लेकिन अब इनकी संख्या 2,000 से ज़्यादा हो गई है। इन्हें फिर से जंगल में छोड़ा गया, ब्रीडिंग कराई गई, और इनके शिकार, यानी यूरोपीय खरगोश की आबादी को भी बढ़ाया गया। इससे इनकी संख्या बढ़ी है और IUCN रेड लिस्ट में इनकी स्थिति सुधरी है, हालांकि पूरी तरह ठीक होने में अभी समय लगेगा।
