Centre Proposes Community-Led Surveillance for Drinking Water Quality
Times of India · india
The Indian government is proposing a community-led surveillance system to monitor drinking water quality, enabling villagers to conduct basic tests and report issues via mobile apps. This initiative aims to ensure that tap water connections provided under the Jal Jeevan Mission deliver safe and sustainable services. The Centre is also considering training women to use field-testing kits for water quality monitoring. Additionally, plans include developing a decision-support system using various data sources and creating a digital twin of the country's water supply infrastructure to predict maintenance needs and enhance services.
