Amazon Abandons $427 Million Virginia Data Centre Plan Amid Opposition
Times of India · business
Amazon has withdrawn its application to build four data centres on a 120-acre campus in Ashburn, Virginia, after local opposition. The company had purchased the George Washington University campus for $427 million. Instead of proceeding with the data centres, Amazon will donate approximately 25 acres for community facilities and contribute $5 million to affordable housing efforts. This agreement, dubbed 'Project Potomac Promise,' involves rezoning the remaining land for mixed-use development, averting potential legal action and addressing community concerns about the project's impact.
