The Jharkhand High Court has overturned a conviction under Section 307 IPC for attempt to murder, stating the prosecution failed to prove essential elements. However, the court upheld convictions for other offences, including those under the POCSO Act and Witchcraft Prevention Act. The accused had already served over four years in custody, exceeding the maximum sentence for the upheld convictions. Consequently, the court ordered his immediate release, provided he was not required in any other case. The case involved allegations of torturing a minor girl during a ritual healing attempt.

झारखंड हाईकोर्ट ने हत्या के प्रयास के तहत IPC की धारा 307 के तहत सज़ा को पलट दिया है। कोर्ट ने कहा कि अभियोजन पक्ष ज़रूरी बातें साबित नहीं कर पाया। हालाँकि, कोर्ट ने POCSO एक्ट और Witchcraft Prevention Act सहित अन्य अपराधों के लिए सज़ा बरकरार रखी। आरोपी चार साल से ज़्यादा जेल में काट चुका था, जो कि बाकी सज़ाओं की अधिकतम अवधि से ज़्यादा है। इसलिए, कोर्ट ने उसे तुरंत रिहा करने का आदेश दिया, बशर्ते उसे किसी और मामले में ज़रूरत न हो। इस मामले में एक नाबालिग लड़की को एक अनुष्ठान के दौरान यातना देने के आरोप थे।
