Director Rajiv Rai revealed that Naseeruddin Shah was initially uneasy about romancing Sonam in the 1989 film 'Tridev'. Shah expressed his discomfort to Rai, noting that Sonam was younger than his own daughter, Heeba Shah. Rai reassured Shah, emphasizing that it was cinema and not a realistic documentary, and that they looked fine as a couple. Sonam, on the other hand, was excited to work with the veteran actor, considering him one of the best actors in the industry.
