Washington Bridge Gets $114 Million Overhaul

A 1950s bridge in Washington, carrying 90,000 vehicles daily, is undergoing a $114 million rehabilitation. The Northbound I-395 bridge over the Potomac River will receive a new fixed span, replacing the existing movable section. This major upgrade, funded by DDOT and the Federal Highway Administration, will utilize accelerated bridge construction methods. The new span will be floated into place during a single 56-hour weekend closure, with completion expected in fall 2029.
