Residents Re-erect Elephant Passage Fences in Idukki After Forest Dept Removal
The Hindu · india
Residents in Idukki's Panthadikkalam area have re-erected fences that the Forest Department had dismantled to allow wild elephant movement. The barriers were removed following the death of a farmer, allegedly by an elephant named ‘Chakkakompan’. Forest officials confirmed the fences are back up, blocking traditional elephant routes and causing six elephants to roam a settlement road. A Rapid Response Team is deployed to manage the situation. The Forest Department is also preparing to capture and relocate two problematic elephants, Chakkakompan and Murivali.
