Midcap and Smallcap Stocks Suffer Worst Losses in 20 Months
Business Standard Markets · stocks
Indian midcap and smallcap stocks experienced their most significant weekly decline in 20 months, with smaller companies facing steeper drops. The Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 indices fell 5.6 per cent and 7.3 per cent respectively over four sessions. The overall market value of listed companies decreased by approximately ₹7 trillion on Friday and ₹20.6 trillion for the week. Analysts attribute the pressure to rising crude oil prices and global geopolitical tensions, rather than domestic fundamentals. Despite oversold conditions, selling pressure is expected to persist.
