India Needs Tailored Trade Templates For Different Partners, Says FM Sitharaman

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman stated that India cannot use a single template for trade negotiations with major economies. She explained that tariffs, geopolitical risks, and supply-chain concerns are reshaping the global trading system. Sitharaman noted that ongoing talks with the US should not automatically mirror the recently concluded EU negotiations, given differing priorities and trade balances. The minister emphasized that while multilateralism is important, the weakening of institutions like the WTO has led to a greater focus on bilateral agreements.

वित्त मंत्री निर्मला सीतारमण ने कहा कि भारत बड़े देशों के साथ व्यापार की बातचीत के लिए एक ही तरीका नहीं अपना सकता। उन्होंने समझाया कि टैरिफ, भू-राजनीतिक जोखिम और सप्लाई-चेन की चिंताएं दुनिया के व्यापार सिस्टम को बदल रही हैं। सीतारमण ने कहा कि अमेरिका के साथ चल रही बातचीत यूरोपीय संघ के साथ हाल ही में हुए समझौते जैसी नहीं होनी चाहिए, क्योंकि दोनों की प्राथमिकताएं और व्यापार संतुलन अलग हैं। मंत्री ने जोर देकर कहा कि भले ही बहुपक्षवाद महत्वपूर्ण है, लेकिन WTO जैसी संस्थाओं के कमजोर होने से द्विपक्षीय समझौतों पर ज्यादा ध्यान दिया जा रहा है।
