A new study published in Annals of Internal Medicine reveals a shift in alcohol consumption patterns. Between 2018 and 2024, the percentage of Americans under 40 who drink alcohol has slightly decreased, with younger generations like Gen Z reportedly distancing themselves from drinking post-pandemic. Conversely, individuals aged 50 to 64 are showing an increase in alcohol consumption, with some drinking more than before. Researchers suggest this rise among older adults may be linked to increased mental stress, leading them to use alcohol as a coping mechanism.
