Munro's 1826 visit led to Nilgiris becoming first

Sir Thomas Munro's visit to the Nilgiris 200 years ago, at the invitation of collector John Sullivan, led to the region being declared the first hill station of the British Raj. Munro, Governor of Madras from 1820-1827, reached Ooty, and was impressed by the landscape. He recommended the hills for invalid officials instead of voyages to Europe. His visit also preceded the introduction of the postal system to the region.

मुनरो की १८२६ की यात्रा से नीलगिरि बने पहले

सर थॉमस मुनरो 200 साल पहले जॉन सुलिवन के बुलावे पर नीलगिरि आए थे। इसी के बाद इस इलाके को ब्रिटिश राज का पहला हिल स्टेशन घोषित किया गया। मद्रास के गवर्नर रहे मुनरो ऊटी पहुंचे और वहां के नज़ारों से बहुत प्रभावित हुए। उन्होंने यूरोप जाने के बजाय बीमार अफसरों के लिए इन पहाड़ियों की सिफ़ारिश की। उनके आने के बाद ही यहाँ डाक व्यवस्था शुरू हुई थी।
