LG Orders Measures To Speed Up Delhi Court Trials Amid 3 Lakh Pending Cases

Delhi's Lieutenant Governor TS Sandhu has directed the directorate of prosecution to expedite trials, minimize adjournments, and ensure timely witness production, addressing over 3 lakh pending cases in district courts. With more than 42% of prosecution posts vacant, prosecutors face heavy caseloads. The LG also called for stricter scrutiny of chargesheets, analysis of acquittals to identify lapses, and increased use of technology like electronic records and video conferencing to improve justice delivery. Measures like trial in absentia and electronic case tracking are to be implemented to prevent delays.

दिल्ली के उपराज्यपाल टीएस संधू ने जिला अदालतों में 3 लाख से अधिक लंबित मामलों को निपटाने के लिए अभियोजन निदेशालय को मुकदमों में तेजी लाने, स्थगन को कम करने और गवाहों की समय पर पेशी सुनिश्चित करने का निर्देश दिया है। अभियोजन के 42% से अधिक पद खाली होने के कारण अभियोजकों पर काम का भारी बोझ है। एलजी ने चार्जशीट की कड़ी जांच, चूक की पहचान के लिए बरी होने वाले मामलों का विश्लेषण और न्याय वितरण में सुधार के लिए इलेक्ट्रॉनिक रिकॉर्ड और वीडियो कॉन्फ्रेंसिंग जैसी तकनीक के बढ़ते उपयोग का भी आह्वान किया। देरी को रोकने के लिए अनुपस्थिति में सुनवाई और इलेक्ट्रॉनिक केस ट्रैकिंग जैसे उपायों को लागू किया जाना है।
