SC Rules: Reservation Benefits End With Religious Conversion
Aaj Tak · india
The Supreme Court has ruled that individuals from Scheduled Castes or Backward Classes within the Hindu social system cannot claim reservation benefits after converting to another religion. The court clarified that social backwardness associated with a caste does not automatically transfer to a person upon changing their religion. This decision upholds a Madras High Court order that had previously cancelled the Tamil Nadu government's decision to grant reservation to converts who became Muslim.
