India's Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Harish Parvathaneni, stated that the UN Security Council is struggling to deliver peace and reconciliation in major global conflicts. He argued that an organisation founded 80 years ago, after World War II, cannot maintain authority with an unrepresentative principal organ. Parvathaneni emphasised that legitimacy, not just historical victory, is crucial for the UN's effectiveness in today's world. He highlighted that the current structure, determined by a war fought over eight decades ago, is inadequate for addressing contemporary geopolitical challenges.
